CVS-valve

Lumped Parameter Cardiovascular Valve Mechanics Modeling

Organization: IIT Mandi
Key Result & Impact Benchmark

Accurately reproduced clinical systemic arterial pressure waveforms and stenosis dynamics.

Technical Overview

CVS-valve is a biomedical engineering simulation project completed for the Biomedical Systems course (EE516) at IIT Mandi under Dr. Erwin Fuhrer. The project models the human cardiovascular system and aortic valve dynamics using lumped parameter hydraulic-electrical analogies (where blood pressure maps to voltage and flow rate maps to current). Utilizing Laplace transforms, transfer functions, and Fourier series representations, the simulation models valve opening/closure timing, pressure drops, and cardiac output under normal vs pathological stenosis conditions.

Key Technical Highlights

  • Derived transfer functions for aortic valve pressure-flow relationships using electrical circuit analogies.
  • Simulated transient pressure waves and dynamic regurgitation in MATLAB & Simulink.
  • Earned Grade 'A' in EE516 Biomedical Systems under Dr. Erwin Fuhrer.
