VikramUnity

Chandrayaan-3 Vikram Rover Lunar Landing VR Simulation

Organization: IIT Mandi
Key Result & Impact Benchmark

Delivered an immersive 60fps mobile VR lunar exploration simulation environment.

Technical Overview

VikramUnity is an interactive virtual reality simulation project developed for the Mobile Virtual Reality & Artificial Intelligence course (CS662) at IIT Mandi under Dr. Varun Dutt. The simulation recreates ISRO's Chandrayaan-3 mission, featuring physics-based thruster descent controls for the Vikram lander and autonomous surface obstacle avoidance algorithms for the Pragyan rover. Built in Unity 3D with C# scripts, the application was optimized for smooth 60fps rendering on mobile VR headsets.

Key Technical Highlights

  • Simulated lunar gravity, thruster dynamics, and terrain collision physics in Unity 3D.
  • Programmed autonomous rover pathfinding around simulated lunar craters and boulders.
  • Earned Grade 'A' in CS662 Mobile Virtual Reality and AI under Dr. Varun Dutt.
